Adele has revealed she plans to take an extended hiatus from music after completing her current run of concerts. The singer shared this decision during an interview with German broadcaster ZDF ahead of her 10-date residency in Munich. “My tank is quite empty at the minute,” Adele explained, emphasizing that she has no immediate plans for new music. She expressed a desire to explore other creative avenues and take some personal time, even mentioning, “I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?”
Emotional Impact of Performances
Adele’s last album was released in 2021, and she has spent the past two years performing a weekend residency in Las Vegas, recently completing her 90th show at the 4,000-capacity Caesar’s Palace. She described the experience as emotionally draining, despite the relatively small audience size. “Even though it’s a very manageable size of crowd, it’s really been an emotional exchange,” she said. “I’m sure I’ll feel even more like [that] every night after the shows in Munich. But it’s a positive thing. It’s just such an exchange of energy.”
Challenges in Las Vegas
Not every concert in Las Vegas went smoothly. In June, Adele confronted an audience member who allegedly yelled “Pride sucks” during one of her shows. She responded angrily, telling the heckler to “shut up” if they had nothing nice to say. Reflecting on the incident, Adele admitted she is easily provoked and described herself as “old and grumpy” at 36 years old.
The Munich Residency
Adele’s Munich shows will be on a much larger scale compared to her Las Vegas residency, with 74,000 fans expected each night in a specially-built “pop-up” stadium. The venue will feature an “Adele experience,” complete with an English pub, a stage for a cover band, and stalls selling specially designed cocktails. Organizers aim to set a Guinness World Record for the largest outdoor screen, measuring 220 meters in length. Adele expressed excitement about the setup on Instagram, calling it “bloody exciting,” and highlighted that the video installation would enhance the fan experience by ensuring everyone could see her clearly.
The Struggle with Fame
Despite her success, Adele cited her struggle with the limelight as a significant reason for her planned break from music. She misses the anonymity she had before becoming famous and finds the fame aspect of her career challenging. “I miss everything about before I was famous, I think probably being anonymous the most,” she said. “I like that I get to make music all the time, whenever I want to, and people are receptive to it and like it. That’s pretty unimaginable. But the fame side of it, I absolutely hate. The fact that people are even interested in my songs and my voice is pretty wild. I don’t think it ever gets normal. So it’s worth it, the balance.”
